Hello to November and a new face in the LifeLink® Faces of Transplantation Project. Meet Krystle Pitts.
In 2016, while visiting family, Krystle Pitts, a working actress, singer, and dancer, battled unusual exhaustion and a mysterious rash she initially dismissed as allergies. At her mother's insistence, Krystle consulted her doctor, who ordered blood tests after discovering alarmingly high blood pressure.
Days later, while driving to work at Busch Gardens, where she was a stage performer, Krystle experienced sudden dizziness and went to the emergency room. Though most staff attributed her symptoms to blood pressure issues, one attentive nurse urged follow-up care. The next day, between performances at Busch Gardens, Krystle received an urgent call—she needed immediate hospitalization for end-stage renal disease.
Krystle began dialysis while chronicling her experience through her blog, "Renal Royalty." Her transparent storytelling even helped one reader discover their own stage five kidney failure. Throughout treatment, Krystle continued performing, finding solace and strength in her art during the darkest times.
Easter Sunday 2020 brought Krystle a lifesaving kidney transplant. With her parents' support and personal determination, her recovery progressed smoothly, allowing her to return to the stage by year's end.
Today, Krystle feels profound gratitude toward her donor hero and their family. She seizes every opportunity to share her story and celebrate the precious gift that saved her life.
