LifeLink of Florida will host a Service of Remembrance in honor of the heroes who gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. This annual event is a time to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost through our Book of Memories and a Visual Tribute video. Additionally, a time of sharing allows families an opportunity to tell others about their loved one. Please note, this event is invitation only. Contact Donor Family Services for more information at (800) 262-5775.
What To Expect At The Service of Remembrance
Doors will open at 12:30 pm and the Service of Remembrance will begin promptly at 1:30 pm, and will include guest speakers such as transplant recipients and other donor family members, and there will be an opportunity for family members who wish to share a few words about their one during the service. Feel free to arrive early, because prior to and immediately following the service, there will be stations at which donor family members can sign up to share their loved one's story as a LifeLink volunteer, learn how to initiate communication with the recipients of their loved one's organs, dedicate a flower to their loved one that will appear on the Donate Life Float in the Rose Parade on New Year's Day and more. There will be special resources and activities for children experiencing grief. Also, there will be tables on which family members can display photos or personal items in memory of their loved one.
Book Of Memories Submissions
Each family is invited to submit an entry for the Book of Memories in memory of their loved one. Submissions should be no longer than 250 words in length and may include a photo. The photo submitted for the Book of Memories will also be shared in the Visual Tribute, which is a video memorial that will play during the Service of Remembrance. Examples of Book of Memories submissions can be found here. Book of Memories submissions are due on or before September 1, 2017.
Donor Family Quilt
The Donor Family Quilt is an ongoing project, with a new quilt panel being unveiled each year at the Service of Remembrance. Each family may submit a quilt square in memory of their loved one. While the deadline to submit a square to appear on the quilt which will be unveiled at this year's service is September 1, 2017, there is no deadline for quilt square submissions and all squares submitted after September 1st will appear on the next quilt panel. Quilt squares may be mailed to LifeLink before the service, brought to the Service of Remembrance or mailed in after the service. Previous quilts can be found here.
Tables will be set up on which families may display photos, personal items or other remembrances of their loved one. These tables will be monitored at all times by LifeLink staff, and all items should be retrieved from the table following the service.
