Luis Correa De Jesus

Hello June and a new face in the LifeLink Faces of Transplantation Calendar - Then and Now edition!

Then... Luis Correa De Jesus, Kidney & Heart Recipient 2010 calendar participants.

Now...At 23 years old, Luis was diagnosed with kidney disease, but it wasn’t until 17 years later the full ramifications of his diagnosis were realized; his kidneys failed completely, and he began dialysis. While undergoing evaluations to be placed on the transplant waiting list for a new kidney, doctors discovered that Luis was also in heart failure—he needed both a heart and kidney transplant to survive. In 2007, Luis became the first patient in Puerto Rico to receive both lifesaving organs at the Cardiovascular Center of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Since his transplant Luis has been a dedicated LifeLink of Puerto Rico volunteer and spends time entering new donor registrations on the Donate Life Puerto Rico electronic registry as well as sharing his story at community events. Luis watched his daughter find success as a collegiate volleyball player and get married. He’s now a grandfather of two granddaughters, Alanis and Shalom. Luis is overjoyed to spend time with them, an experience he would not have had without the lifesaving gifts from an organ donor.
