TAMPA, Fla. – (June 7, 2017) – LifeLink Legacy Fund, a non-profit community service organization dedicated to supporting the mission of LifeLink® Foundation, welcomes new member, Thomas C. Pearson, M.D., Ph.D., to the Board of Directors. Dr. Pearson is an Atlanta-based physician, currently serving as Director of Emory Transplant Center’s Kidney Transplant Program. He is also a Professor of Surgery for Emory University and an Affiliate Scientist at the Yerkes Division of Pathobiology and Immunobiology, both in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Pearson earned his undergraduate degree from Juniata College and is a graduate of Emory Medical School. He completed his Ph.D. in Transplantation Immunology as a Devorguilla Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford University. He was the recipient of both an Overseas Research Studentship from Oxford University and a British-American Research Fellowship from the American and British Heart Associations.
Dr. Pearson steps into the Board of Directors position held previously by John Whelchel, M.D. who served with LifeLink Legacy Fund for five years, while also serving on LifeLink Foundation Board of Governors. Dr. Whelchel, who was integral in bringing LifeLink to Georgia and previously oversaw transplant at Piedmont Hospital, also acted as Medical Director for LifeLink of Georgia until 2014.
LifeLink Legacy Fund is a 501(c)3 established in 1995 to support LifeLink Foundation’s efforts in organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Over the years, the LifeLink Legacy Fund has emerged into a boundless support system for pre- and post- transplant patients in need of financial assistance. The LifeLink Legacy Fund also provides funding for critical research and programs to improve organ and tissue donation and transplantation.
