Jeanette Parham-Carroll

Hello to February and a new face in the LifeLink® Faces of Transplantation Calendar. Meet Jeanette Parham-Carroll.

Kidney disease runs in Jeanette Parham-Carroll’s family. Since Jeanette only had one kidney, she felt especially vulnerable. In 2009, after losing her mom to kidney disease, Jeanette found herself in kidney failure as well, and began dialysis at home. Encouraged by her doctor, she wrote letters to family members asking them to consider living donation. While no family members were able to donate, the letters opened communication about family health and organ transplantation, and Jeannette felt very supported.

It was a stranger who provided Jeannette’s gift of life, received after a late-night call from her transplant coordinator with the news that a kidney was available. Since her transplant, Jeannette has written to her donor hero’s family and hopes they know how much she appreciates the life-saving decision that was made.
