Inaugural Donate Life Hospital Award Presented at Georgia Hospital Association Patient Safety and Quality Summit.

(January 25, 2018) LifeLink® of Georgia, in partnership with Georgia Hospital Association, presented the inaugural Donate Life Hospital Award to Redmond Regional Medical Center and Archbold Medical Center on January 10, 2018, at the Patient Safety and Quality Summit held at the Ritz Carlton at Lake Oconee. The Donate Life Hospital Award honors hospital partners committed to saving and enhancing lives through organ and tissue donation. It will be given annually to two hospitals within the LifeLink of Georgia service area.

Hospitals were nominated based upon their demonstrated support of organ and tissue donation, and included specific examples of initiatives, events or activities to increase the opportunity for organ and tissue donation within the clinical setting or in the community.

Redmond Regional Medical Center was selected for their broad based support of donation and engagement of senior leadership. In 2017, Redmond enlisted support of senior leadership and implemented a Celebration of Life Ceremony to recognize staff members and departments who participate in the care of organ donors and their families. The Celebration of Life includes rounding by the CEO and senior leaders to personally thank staff in various areas of the hospital. Redmond’s marketing department developed a podcast about donation and incorporated organ donation into the hospital’s community blood drives. During Donate Life Month in April, the hospital hosted an Organ Donation Awareness breakfast and luncheon for hospital employees

Archbold Medical Center was selected for their proactive and creative approaches to increase donation awareness. Archbold recently launched a Donation Advisory Committee to review donation outcomes and seek opportunities for improvement. Through this committee, the hospital implemented hospital-wide donor awareness campaigns which included a flag raising ceremony for National Blue and Green Day, a blue and green competition throughout various departments, and a donor mom distributed blue and green cookies to the staff. Marketing was instrumental in promoting the events and engaged social media to help spread the message of donation. During 2017, Archbold also hosted a community dinner program that included presentations from a donor family and transplant recipient. The event encouraged members of the community to register as organ and tissue donors and to spread the message of the importance of donation.

“We were honored to recognize Redmond Medical Center and Archbold Medical Center through the inaugural Donate Life Hospital Award,” says Dustin Diggs, Associate Executive Director, LifeLink of Georgia, “The efforts from these hospitals have directly affected organ and tissue donation throughout the state of Georgia, and more lives will be saved because of their outreach.”
