AUGUSTA, GA – (March 31, 2015) – The public is invited to the CSRA Gospel Jubilee, a free concert event at The Salvation Army of Augusta Kroc Center, on April 18, 2015 at 5:00 PM. The Jubilee highlights the need for saving lives through organ and tissue donation and transplantation. LifeLink® of Georgia, the state’s non-profit organ recovery organization, along with WNRR Gospel 1380AM will host the event. Grammy nominated, international recording artists Funmilayo Ngozi and Pamela Bowman will perform, and other scheduled artists include Destiny Worship Center, Miles Mealing & NuMovement, Shawna Harris, Golden Bells - Ebenezer SDA Church and Joyce McCaster.
More than 4,900 Georgians are in need of an organ transplant and over 4,400 of those are awaiting a kidney transplant. Sixty six percent of those awaiting a kidney transplant in Georgia are African American. The African American community is uniquely impacted by the need for organ transplantation because diseases resulting in kidney failure –diabetes and high blood pressure - are more prevalent in the African American community than other populations, leading to dialysis and the need for a kidney transplant. The only way to save the lives of those waiting for a kidney transplant is through organ donation.
“This April, during the federally sanctioned Donate Life Month, LifeLink of Georgia honors the spirit of those individuals who make transplants possible—organ, tissue and eye donors. The CSRA Gospel Jubilee serves as a forum to do that and to educate the Augusta community about the importance of organ and tissue donation,” says Amanda Hollowell, LifeLink’s Multicultural Donation Education Program (MDEP) Specialist. “LifeLink looks forward to bringing this event to the Augusta community and wants to encourage our community members to register their donation decision.” More than 215,000 residents of the CSRA have already signed up to give the Gift of Life at www.donatelifegeorgia.org.
