Say "Yes" Today

Betzaida Liz Gómez

Hello to August and a new face in the LifeLink® Faces of Transplantation Calendar. Meet Betzaida Liz Gómez.

The end of 2019 marked a turning point in Betzaida’s life. She was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis, the same disease that had taken her father’s life, and she urgently needed a liver transplant. As a registered donor herself, Betzaida had never imagined that one day she would need someone to say “yes” to donation to save her.

Thankfully, someone did say yes, and Betzaida received a transplant. Renewed health allowed her to return to work and achieve one of her biggest dreams—becoming a writer. Betzaida has published her first book “De la Tumba al Jardin.” In it, Betzaida talks about the importance of organ donation and how significant an impact organ donation has had on her life. Not a single day goes by in which Betzaida doesn’t thank God, her donor, and their family for this new chance at life. “To you, whom I never had a chance to meet, and though our paths never crossed in the physical realm, today we remain united in an eternal bond. I don’t know your name, your story, and your journey, I only know that your death brought me life. Death and life are linked inside of my body. Although you are not on the earthly plane, your life is prolonged in mine. To you and your family who mourn your loss… Thank you.” (A segment from Betzaida’s book “De la Tumba al Jardin.”)
