Say "Yes" Today

The Andrews Family

Hello October and a new face in the LifeLink Faces of Transplantation Calendar - Then and Now edition!

Then...The Andrews Family, Donor Family 2013 calendar participants

Now...Byron was a sweet, loving young man. While spending time with friends, Byron was tragically struck and killed by a stray bullet. When approached about donation, his mother, Orkiya, made the selfless decision to say yes. Byron saved six lives through organ donation and his story has impacted countless more—every person entering the local tax collector office to get or renew their driver license, or take care of other business, reads Byron’s story on a mural dedicated to organ and tissue donation that adorns the wall. Byron is also still celebrated by family, friends and even the local Tampa music community who has featured him in music videos and various songs. His older sister had a daughter named Bryah, after Byron. Bryah is so much like Byron and is full of smiles and joy whenever her late uncle is mentioned in conversation. Every year on Byron’s birthday, and on the anniversary of his death, many of Byron’s friends and family gather at his graveside to celebrate Byron’s life. Orkiya says, “We know God had a purpose and plan. I take solace in knowing my son saved lives through organ donation.”
