Illuminating a Brighter Future Together  | 2024 LifeLink of Florida Volunteer Appreciation Banquet Recap

This year's annual LifeLink of Florida volunteer banquets, themed Starry Night, were unforgettable celebrations of hope, resilience, and community. Drawing inspiration from Vincent van Gogh’s iconic painting, Starry Night, we were reminded of the profound message that even in times of darkness, light can and will shine through. Just as the stars illuminate the night sky, our volunteers’ unwavering commitment has illuminated our mission, guiding us toward a brighter future for countless individuals and families.

As we gathered under the metaphorical “starry sky,” we celebrated our journey together and reflected on the remarkable achievements made throughout 2024. This year has been one of profound growth, compassion, and impact — and none of it would have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers who stand alongside us.

LifeLink® of Florida Executive Directors, Darren Lahrman and Susan Rabel, shared powerful reflections on the milestones reached in 2024 including the growth of public education with a 64% increase in volunteer hours and a 67% increase in awareness events.

Their speech highlighted the many lives touched and transformed by the tireless work of our volunteers, staff, and supporters. In a year marked by challenges, we are reminded that, just like the stars, our mission has shone brighter because of the collective effort we’ve put in.

Celebrating Volunteers: The Stars of Our Mission

At the heart of the celebration were our volunteers, whose tireless efforts have illuminated the path to progress. Volunteers were recognized and honored with awards for their exceptional contributions, and we couldn't be more grateful for their passion and dedication. Each one of them has been a guiding star in our mission, and their work has made an undeniable difference in the lives of those we serve.

Posthumous Award | Remembering Patrick McClain

Patrick is wearing a blue, collared shirt.

Patrick McClain was a liver recipient and had joined the LifeLink volunteer program in Fall of 2023. We appreciated his enthusiasm to share his story with LifeLink staff in addition to our local Hillsborough Tax Collector partners.

Patrick, 59, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5th, 2024. He was Director, Enterprise Application Services for USF Information Technology in Tampa, FL and had been employed with USF for 14 years. Patrick is survived by his wife, Beth McClain, who attended the Tampa Banquet on December 13th, to receive Patrick’s posthumous award for his time and dedication to our lifesaving mission.
